Two new shows coming up!

Hi guys,

I know we’ve been quiet lately, both online and on-air, save for a few race updates here and there. This is because we are going through numerous changes, improvements… and making exciting plans for Run Radio.

We are launching two podcast episodes to supplement the live episode (which will start soon!) Today, we just uploaded the test broadcast of Run Radio: Raceday Recap (that’s a whole lot of Rs :D ) It’s not much save for a few interviews with race participants, how they found the race, including a couple who got engaged through a finish line proposal — seems like it’s becoming the vogue nowadays!

Run Radio: Raceday Recap

Run Radio: Raceday Recap aims to bring you the freshest running news in and out of the metro.

Run Radio: 101

Run Radio: 101 will be your source of running tips — technique, nutrition, and advice. Beginner-friendly but experienced runners could still pick up a thing or two.

(And we talk about touchy stuff for girls, like running/racing with your period and choosing the right sports bra)

Run Radio: 101 will be launched on November 24, 2009.

We will have new hosts to join in the fray, too! Will keep you posted about them.

Aside from downloading our podcasts on our website, you may directly subscribe through iTunes. Just go to itpc://runradio.blip.tv/rss/itunes/ but make sure you already have iTunes installed in your computer. It’ll auto-update when we have new episodes, including the delayed podcasts of our live episodes.

Rock and run on the worldwide web!

We are also inviting all the participants including their friends and family to serve as volunteers to help repack and distribute the relief goods to the selected barangay halls and/or evacuation centers in Marikina scheduled a week after the event.  Exact schedule of relief operation to follow.

For inquiries, please contact the Finishline secretariat at 7031736.

ADDITIONAL 5KM RACE KITS NOW AVAILABLE:

Due to insistent public demand, we have decided to produce additional 5km race kits so that more runners, especially those who are new to the sport, will be able to experience the fun and excitement at The 2009 Timex Run.  The additional 5km race kits are now available at Timex Shop SM North Edsa, Nike Park BHS, and The Trion Towers site showroom at Bonifacio Global City, Taguig.  Hurry and grab your kits while supplies last!  See you all on race day!

REVISED START/FINISH AREA:

With the holidays fast approaching, more and more events are being scheduled in Bonifacio Global City.  Based on our recent meeting with Fort Bonifacio Development Corporation, we have been advised that fun run events scheduled in the next coming months will have to be slightly relocated in order to accommodate other events.  In line with this, we would like to inform everyone that there will be some minor changes with regards to the location of the start/finish area and the 3km race route of the 2009 Timex Run.  Please take note that the start/finish area has been moved from 8th Avenue to 28th Avenue.  This is the same set up as the Adidas King of the Road held last October 25.  Rest assured that although there will be some rerouting with regards to the 3km race route, this minor adjustment will not greatly affect that of the other distances.  To view the updated route maps for 3km, 5km, 10km, and 21km, please visit www.runrio.com <http://www.runrio.com/> .

Our apologies for any inconvenience this might cause.  Thank you for your kind understanding.

SPECIAL AWARDS UP FOR GRABS:

More prizes and awards to be given away at the 2009 Timex Run!  A total of 26 Timex watches will be raffled off and given away as prizes for online games and special awards.  Visit www.timexwatches.com.ph to join “Guess the Bib No. and Finish Time of Piolo Pascual” online game for a chance to win a fabulous Timex watch.  And aside from the 24 category winners of the 3k, 5k, 10k, and 21k distances, we will also be awarding the youngest runner and the oldest runner registered for the event.  They will each receive a Timex watch and a gift pack from Nature Valley Crunchy Granola Bar.  The largest group/club/team/company delegation will also receive 5 Timex watches as their prize.  Christmas just came earlier this year!  See you at the 2009 Timex Run!

WATCH THE PACQUIAO-COTTO FIGHT AT THE 2009 TIMEX RUN:

The fun and excitement never stops at the 2009 Timex Run!  As a participant of the coolest race to hit the running scene, not only do you get a chance to run and take souvenir photos with running coach extraordinaire, Coach Rio, and every girl’s dream boy, Piolo Pascual, but you also get a chance to watch the Pacquiao-Cotto fight LIVE on an LED screen ABSOLUTELY FREE courtesy of Cignal Digital TV and Smart Communications.  And for only P500 per person, you can enjoy a sumptuous eat-all-you-can brunch buffet while waiting for the title fight in the comfort of an air-conditioned tent, courtesy of Paul Calvin’s Deli.  Tables and seats inside the tent are reserved for those who avail of the brunch buffet so buy your tickets ahead of time and get a head start so you can still pick the best seats.  Only 500 meal tickets will be available for pre-purchase by Friday, November 6, at Nike Park, Bonifacio High Street until supplies last.  Feel free to invite your friends and loved ones but those who prefer to eat elsewhere are free to stay and watch the fight as long as they don’t mind the “standing room only” policy for non-diners who will have to watch the fight outside the tent.

This is just the tip of the iceberg, a mere taste of things to come at the 2009 Timex Run.  More surprises await you on race day!

Sincerely,

Coach Rio

EVENT PROFILE:

Corregidor, also known as The Rock, was dubbed as the last bastion of the Allies during World War II. It holds a distinct place in the nation’s dynamic history as it played a vital role in holding off the advancement of the invading forces then. Situated west of Manila, it served as a vital fortress at the mouth of Manila Bay.

What now serves as a moving memorial for the courage, gallantry, and heroism of its defenders may soon become a touchstone of ultimate running athleticism as Hypehouse Production Company and Sun Cruises bring “Conquer Corregidor!”. Set to fire off on December 6, “Conquer Corregidor!”  is expected to thrill, surprise, and challenge, all at the same time, seasoned and amateur runners alike as it will test their mettle on all running terrains. The race route, covering 10 miles, will encompass a demanding combination of paved uphills and downslopes and intermittent segments of dirt trails. But what would really set apart “Conquer Corregidor!” from the usual running experience of avid runners is that it will exceptionally transport the race participants to key historical hotspots of the remarkable isle. Right at the start of the race, the runners will experience at once an adrenaline rush as they zoom past the full length of the Malinta Tunnel. The exhilaration continues to unfold as the runners exit the tunnel’s west access en route to the interior of the atoll. The thrilling highlight of the race surges as the runners negotiate the tricky span of a thickly foliaged trail draped in rays of sunlight, culminating in a run along the rocky cliff of the island with a breathtaking view of Manila Bay, to dramatically finish at the south dock breakwater facing the vast South China Sea.

“Conquer Corregidor!” will be an extraordinary opportunity for passionate runners to set new norm for personal achievement as finishing the race will be akin to recapitulating a fortress that is home to the resilient and valiant.

PROJECTED PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS:

Owing to the foreseen difficulty of the terrain and the logistical challenge of the venue, the slots for participation in the race will be limited to 750 only, with a possible 250 additional slots for last-minute registrants.

Based on the foregoing participation levels of previous major races held in Metro Manila, it is anticipated that “Conquer Corregidor!” will attract a wide-spectrum of participant-runners, ranging from the intermediate recreational to the hardcore runners, majority of which are urban professionals and the so-called “weekend-warriors”. The level and caliber of participants may be further boosted with the expected entry of elite racers.

In terms of demographics, it is estimated that around 80% of expected participants will be male, while a good 20% will be comprised by female runners. Majority of the runner participants are anticipated to come from the ABC socio-economic stratum. The age of participants is projected to range between 20 to 40 years old. However, this does not discount the high probability that “Conquer Corregidor” may also draw in participation from a number of fit teenagers and groups of masters-category runners.

From SMART: Official Statement

SMART SPORTS THANKS SIM 2009 RUNNERS AND ALL PARTNERS

At the outset, we at Smart Sports would like to extend our congratulations to all the runners, most especially to the marathoners of the recently concluded Subic International Marathon 2009. However, it has come to our attention the numerous comments of the participants of SIM 2009 regarding the technical aspect of the race and if there are shortcomings we will make it a point to discuss this with the race organizers. Rest assured to the running community that all these comments, feedbacks and suggestions are carefully being reviewed and will be kept as reference for other marathons Smart will be supporting.

Allow us to take this opportunity to share with the running community the reasons why Smart Sports decided to support SIM:

1. We are a sponsor. Much the same way we will be when we sponsor other marathons

2. We believe in the transformational advocacy of the Philippine National Police through its program director Ret. Gen. Sam Tucay and Chief PNP Jesus Verzosa

3. We realize that through SIM, we will be able to identify Filipino runners that can represent the country in international races. Kudos to the only 2 Filipinos (Hernanie Sore and Alquin Bolivar) to make it in the top ten who gave every ounce of willpower for flag and country

4. We simply want to promote a sport where hundreds and thousands of passionate Filipinos love

5. Sports tourism: to showcase the beauty of the Philippines. Particularly the beauty of SCTEX and Subic Bay

Since Smart Sports has committed to support Philippine marathon in the long run, we ask for the running community’s understanding and patience as Smart is very new to this. Smart has already pledged to support several international marathons for 2010 and we assure the running community that through partnerships with seasoned race organizers, we will make these marathons enjoyable and memorable which running enthusiasts (both local and foreign) can look forward to each year.

Smart – we’re helping sports… we’re helping running…

Maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat!

Patrick “Pato” Gregorio

Head – Smart Sports

Piolo & Rio Sprinting Towards the 2009 Timex Run

Piolo and Coach Rio

Fresh from the triumph of prized athletes it backed up in the very first Ironman triathlon held in Camsur recently, Timex, world renowned makers of high quality time gears, will once again help fun-loving sports enthusiasts defy their limits, prove its dominance and create history as it launches its very first running event, The 2009 Timex Run

With the gun start set to fire on November 15, 2009 at the Bonifacio Global City in Taguig, the race which is co-presented by Robinsons Land and marathon organizer Runrio aims to gather runners from all walks of life, to spark up competitive athletic spirits and to unleash hardcore rivalries. In fact to make the running event even more exciting the 2009 Timex Run brings together two of the country’s most loved icons in the world of entertainment and running respectively: heartthrob and sports enthusiast Piolo Pascual and multiple champion runner and coach Rio dela Cruz

Piolo Pascual and Coach Rio dela Cruz

In a press conference held last October 20, 2009 in Max’s Restaurant in Glorietta 2 Makati City, the two Timex ambassadors formally announced before the press that they will be among the very first ones to arrive at the race grounds and dash to become fit and healthy. Both Piolo, a first-time runner who admitted being so excited to join the run and Rio who studied Human Kinetics in the University of the Philippines and is a well-known running coach of some of the country’s well-known celebrities and business tycoons will be joining in the 10K category. All ready and set to go, this race will give enthusiasts the chance to run side-by-side with Piolo and Rio and try their luck to challenge and to get past them.

Divided into four race categories, athletes, race fanatics, and casual runners can choose from the 3, 5, 10 or 21 kilometer half-marathon event and begin the dynamic chase to make and break records in a test that is sure to measure their strength and endurance. The 2009 Timex Run, just like its reliable time gears assures participants of accuracy in timing and a host of other novel innovations. One of which is the disposable “champion” chips, timing devices attached to shoe laces specially designed to let runners monitor their starting in finishing times with stern accuracy. Functioning only soon as the runner steps on the designated ground matting, the recorded time is sure to be precise.  Another is the Runpix analysis which is a record of interesting running statistics unique to each individual who ran. This will be available after the race at www.runrio.com and www.timexrunning.com. Photovendo also makes the run more fun by giving runners a full view of the experience as it will be providing run shots which will be available online for viewing and optional purchase.

Aside from the breathtaking action set to unfold in the race track, those joining can also expect a finish line filled with great prizes. While all finishers will take home Nature Valley loot bags, those who will emerge on top of the pack will get cash prizes and their very own Timex watches, activity and time-tracking gears that gives wearers nothing less than the optimum when it comes to style and functionality. A total of 50 watches shall be given away, 24 for the winners and 26 for the raffles. Top three finishers in every category will also get gift certificates/gift packs from Nike and other sponsors. Timex partnered with companies such Nature’s Valley Granola Bar, 100 Plus Isotonic Drink, Summit Distilled Drinking Water, Finish Line, Photo Vendo, Nike, Fitness First, Flojos, Nesvita, Men’s Health Magazine, Women’s Health Magazine to make this anticipated race possible.

One of the Timex watches to be given away to victors during the competition is the Timex Ironman Race Trainer Digital Heart Rate Monitor, the latest time gear meant to be every dynamic individual’s ideal running mate. A huge hit among Ironman Triathletes since it was launched, this one of a kind heart rate monitor boasts of a superior quality functions that aid in an athlete’s everyday training matched with uncompromising sleek and slim styling. This runner’s favorite is incredibly comfortable on the wrist and unlike others, is very simple to use. The heart rate monitor wirelessly transmits its wearer’s heart rate performance while one does his activity to the Ironman watch. Timex Ironman Race Trainer HRM incorporates all the features that fans have all become accustomed to with Timex sport watches, including an Indiglo night light, 10 work-out memory, 50-lap chrono with average heart rate per lap, and five interval timers with individual heart rate target zones. Other features including a countdown timer and three alarms are still included as well.

With the brand that ultimately understands the desires and expectations of true athletes organizing a race only for the country’s active and most competitive sports enthusiasts, one can expect high energy and passion flaring as each battle for the win and for a chance to be of help to our fellowmen as part of the 2009 Timex Run’s proceeds shall go to the Timex-UNICEF school in Masbate and victims of typhoon Ondoy.

Only the first three thousand to register  will be given event singlets. So hurry and register at selected Timex shops, located at SM North Edsa, SM Megamall, SM Mall of Asia, SM Southmall, Glorietta 3, Nike Bonifacio High Street, Robinsons Land Showroom, The Trion Towers Showroom or online at www.runrio.com. Individuals with Autism vary widely in abilities, intelligence and behaviors. Although most of them require some form of assistance or supervision throughout their lives, some interventions have made it possible for others to develop the skills they need to live independently.

The LET IT SHINE FOUNDATION aims to generate funds for the creation and sustainability of VOCATIONAL PROGRAMS for individuals with autism. A research team has been formed to create a variety of therapy programs that will develop the skills necessary for individuals with Autism to work independently.
