The Amazing Kidney Race

poster A3 wala

The kidney is one of the vital organs that make the complex and crucial body processes possible. As an acknowledgement of the kidneys’ amazing role in human physiology and in celebration of World Kidney Day 2010 with the theme “Amazing Kidneys”, the Philippine Society of Nephrology (PSN), in cooperation with UP Family Life and Child Development Circle, is staging a rare race event dubbed as “The Amazing Kidney Race.” To be held in the scenic and breezy campus of UP Diliman, “The Amazing Kidney Race” promises to give beginner and seasoned runners alike a unique and exciting racing experience.

Institutionalizing the humanitarian dimension of running and race events is what the PSN aims to accomplish in staging “The Amazing Kidney Race.” Proceeds of this race event will be used mainly for supporting the kidney disease awareness campaign of PSN and the operation and treatment of kidney patients, and partly for the UP Child Development Center. Likewise, this race is among the platform events of PSN adjunct to the global celebration of World Kidney Day.

As PSN aims to pull off a fun yet challenging race, “The Amazing Kidney Race” will have four event categories. There is the 15K Relay Race limited only to 50 teams. Each team shall be composed of 5 members who will correspondingly complete the 1k-2k-3k-4k-5k race distances to complete a total of 15 kilometers. Adding twist to this race category are the baton passing and challenges that must be met by the relay runners in the handover zones to complete transition. Then there is the heart-warming 2.2K Parent-Child Tandem Run especially allocated for Mom/Dad-Child team-ups. During the race, participants and spectators will get a touching sight of a parent egging on and encouraging her/his child who is determined to give his/her all. There is also the 5K UP FLCD Circle Challenge, a banner event of event-partner UP FLCD Circle, particularly catered to beginner runners or veteran racers who have the need for speed. And finally there is the centrepiece event, the 15K Eliminator Pursuit, where race participants will get an adrenalin rush as they negotiate UP Diliman campus’ best kept running course secret – the Heartbreak Route. 15K racers will get to know first-hand why it is called as such. And as if the route is still not inviting, all participants who meet the 45-minute half-way mark or 1hour45minutes finish point cut-off times will receive a Finishers’ Medal.

Both 15K and 5K solo race events will have MD and Open categories and subsequent male and female divisions. Top three individual and group finishers in all events and categories will be awarded with medals and certificates of achievement.

“The Amazing Kidney Race” is presented with the support of Activelink, in cooperation with event partners RunRadio @ NU107 FM, RunnerSpeak @ QTV11, Second Wind Running Store, ROX, and the exclusive on-line media partner, thebullrunner.com.

A few shots of the trail, plus race director Neville Manaois’ description of the terrain

See you all there!

Garmin comes to the Philippines!

Am sure runners and triathletes will be thrilled with what I’m about to share –

Yes, Garmin has finally come to the Philippines! Yayyy!

I had the opportunity to meet the people behind the initiative to distribute Garmin in the country. :) Expect a product launch during Q1 of 2010!

Best of all, they are keen on putting up a service center for Garmin units. (Yup, a hub where you could resurrect your old Forerunners. Double YAYYY!)

I’ll definitely keep you guys posted! For now, HAPPY HOLIDAYS, kiddos!♥

Conquer Corregidor Race Results OUT NOW

Conquer Corregidor

Here now are the official race results for the Conquer Corregidor race which was held last Dec. 6 at the Corregidor Island as provided by race organizer Edward Kho. According to the information provided, although there were 750 or so runners who took part in the race, only 489 were listed with finishing times. They were the ones who met the official cut-off time of 3 hours from gunstart. The sweeping tranvias were deployed at 11:45am to pick-up the participants who were not able to meet the cut-off time to the finish. Those who opted not to take the “rescue ride” were allowed to finish the course but their times were not recorded anymore. You can download the race results HERE.

Conquer Corregidor souvenir shirt

Meanwhile, for those who are interested but were not able to score the Conquer Corregidor souvenir shirts, you still have a chance to do so after all! The shirts are still available at the cost of PHP300 each, at Second Wind Ortigas Home Depo branch starting today, December 14 until stocks last or at the ROX store at BHS The Fort from Dec 18-20 (Fri-Sun) only. Thank you to Edward Kho for the heads-up. ;)

Two new shows coming up!

Hi guys,

I know we’ve been quiet lately, both online and on-air, save for a few race updates here and there. This is because we are going through numerous changes, improvements… and making exciting plans for Run Radio.

We are launching two podcast episodes to supplement the live episode (which will start soon!) Today, we just uploaded the test broadcast of Run Radio: Raceday Recap (that’s a whole lot of Rs :D ) It’s not much save for a few interviews with race participants, how they found the race, including a couple who got engaged through a finish line proposal — seems like it’s becoming the vogue nowadays!

Run Radio: Raceday Recap

Run Radio: Raceday Recap aims to bring you the freshest running news in and out of the metro.

Run Radio: 101

Run Radio: 101 will be your source of running tips — technique, nutrition, and advice. Beginner-friendly but experienced runners could still pick up a thing or two.

(And we talk about touchy stuff for girls, like running/racing with your period and choosing the right sports bra)

Run Radio: 101 will be launched on November 24, 2009.

We will have new hosts to join in the fray, too! Will keep you posted about them.

Aside from downloading our podcasts on our website, you may directly subscribe through iTunes. Just go to itpc://runradio.blip.tv/rss/itunes/ but make sure you already have iTunes installed in your computer. It’ll auto-update when we have new episodes, including the delayed podcasts of our live episodes.

Rock and run on the worldwide web!
